Act, Interrupted

The body resists, but how? How do I reclaim movement in a system designed to keep me still?

As an immigrant navigating bureaucratic mechanisms — the waiting rooms, the windows, the forms, the returns — I noticed that the experience wasn't only administrative. It was physical. The body learns to wait. It learns to shrink. It learns the posture of someone who doesn't know if they will be seen or sent away. I wanted to bring that body onto the space.

The performance unfolds across 20 minutes with four chairs, text, voice, and movement. The chairs become offices, borders, obstacles, resting places, shifting roles the way a bureaucratic space shifts its rules. The body waits, resists, collapses, begins again. There is no resolution. But there is the act of continuing.

Act, Interrupted is the work that opened a thread and continued into behind the scenes, a mixed media installation that expanded the inquiry into space, objects, and the audience's own body.
